Services - Summary
Dave Clarke is a freelance IT consultant
and director of his own company Visualize Systems Ltd (based in
Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, UK). He can provide a number of design/development
services, with emphasis on developing usable intranet and internet
solutions, predominantly using Microsoft technologies. Services
and technologies include:
- Dynamic Internet, Extranet and Intranet
database connectivity work, utilising HTML, ASP.Net, Visual Studio.Net,
C#, XML/XSL/RDF, Web Services, content syndication/RSS, Javascript,
VBScript, CGI, REXX (!), DB2, SQL Server 2005, Oracle 10g and
MS Access. He has experience in various web server technologies
including Microsoft's IIS4/5/6/7 and Netscape Enterprise Server
(NES) 3.6+
- Design and implementation of interactive
systems, based on a variety of platforms and development tools.
Agile methods often adopted (Scrum).
- User interface analysis/design and usability
testing
- Web Accessibility - producing sites to
meet W3C WAI/WCAG standards
- Short training courses, seminars and
single day consultancy sessions.
Contracts may be on a short or long term
basis, to suit the client as necessary. In addition, he is available
for on-site consultancy and fixed price work on an adhoc basis.

Internet Hosting
Hosting includes the following:
- Windows 2000 and 2003 Servers, with ASP, ASP.Net and CGI-BIN
- Popular third party components installed and ready for use including:
ASPImage, ImageSize, ASPPop3, ASPMail, ASPUpload, ASPSock
- Database support: MS Access (suitable for low hit rate sites
only) or SQL Server
- Daily, off-site backups
- Maintenance via FTP or Frontpage extensions
- Pop3 Email facilities. IMAP also available.
- On-line web statistics
- 24x7 site monitoring, with restarts (only if really necessary).
Note: if a site is causing a stability problem on a box, we reserve
the right to remove the site until the problem is rectified.

Background/Experience
With over 20 years of experience in Information Technology,
Dave had his first web site up and running back in the early 1990's, in
the days when Mosaic and Netscape dominated the browser market! He holds
a first class honours degree in Computing Science, a Masters in Advanced
Computing (specialist topic user interface design and development), is
a Chartered Engineer and a member of the British Computer Society (MBCS).
As well as having lectured in the past at two British universities, he
has extensive practical experience in developing dynamic internet, intranet
and extranet applications in industry, using a variety of web technologies.
Dave is a Certified Scrum Master, with Scrum being his preferred Agile
method for most projects.
In addition, he has a strong background in human-computer interaction
and user interface design, is a practitioner member of the executive committee
of the British HCI Group and
has co-chaired two one-day web conferences to date, Time
and the Web and The Active Web, and
is also guest editor for two special issues of the journal Interacting
with Computers, entitled Interfaces for the Active
Web. Also founder of UsabilityNews.com.
